More Tolkien Tattoo Ideas
Yesterday when I was at the library I saw a free bookmark sitting on the counter. So curiosity and my lust for free stuff drove me to pick it up and see what this one was all about. It had pictures from the LOTR (Lord Of The Rings) movies and said something like “Great words. Great Movies.” only it was a little more stirring then that. It made me think about the books and how much I love the words. Then naturally I started thinking about my Ode To Tolkien via tattoo and thought about the comment that I got on my original post concerning Tolkien’s insignia. I thought then about how many times I had actually seen the insignia tattoo on people (not a ton I admit) and how un-original it is just to have that.
I’ve been doing some thinking then about what I would like then. The insignia is something I want, but I want it to be incorporated into a piece. I still like just having the color be only black. I don’t think I want colored tattoos. My new idea is; the insignia, either surrounded by or part of some intricate and curly vining flower plants, and then one of the characters from LOTR. Not from the movie because I think the idea of tattooing someone famous on my body is weird. But finding a piece of someone’s art and incorporating that figure into the design. I really would like to to be Eowyn as she would be my favorite character if I had one. The shield maiden. That is similar to what the name Heidi means (derived from the name Hildegard meaning “battle maiden”). I feel like having that kind of figure would be to carry that strength and courage with me and I really like the idea. And then have some writing, a quote from the books, in tengwar (Tolkien’s elvish writing) or something else. That I will have to contemplate more.
I’ve been doing some searches for art and have a lot of beautiful stuff to work with, but nothing exactly that I really love. This is why I really need to design my own tattoo. I have lots of ideas, just not the talent to put it on paper. But that’s my cool, new idea.
