My Daughter Rocks
I love my nine year old. Artistically speaking, we are exactly alike. We get excited over paint colors. We drool over boxes of fresh pastels. We can stare at paintings for minutes on end. On top of that, we are both willing to suffer for our art.
So, let’s just say, I went a little nuts with the henna last night, as expected. After her henna was on her hands, I blowed dried it then I went to get the masking tape. Masking tape is the keyfor gettng the darkest stain, especially if you are trying to stain lesser porous areas, such as the back or the legs. I have experimented with so many things over the years, but nothing works like masking tape! Miss A saw the masking tape in my hand and said, “what is that for?”.
“Well, if you want the darkest stain, you are going to have to get your hands wrapped.”
“Why”
“Because wrapping heats the henna and keeps it moist and the skin will absorb lots of pigment”
“Oh” She sighs.
“So you want me to wrap it?” I asked.
“OF COURSE MOM! I want it to be the darkest color EVER, and no one in school is going to believe how dark it will get!”
“That’s my girl!” I say, smiling.
“Do I have to sleep with it wrapped?” She asks, sheepishly.
“Yep, that is part of the deal, kiddo. You want it dark, you have to sleep with the wraps on.”
“I CAN DO IT MOM! I CAN DO IT! THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BEST, DARKEST HENNA TATTOO EVER!!!” (at this point she is bouncing from foot to foot as if she is about ready to get into a kickboxing match)
“That’s my girl!” I said.
“AND I DON’T EVEN CARE IF IT IS ITCHY OR BOTHERS ME BECAUSE WHEN I WAKE UP IN THE MORNING IT IS GOING TO BE DARKER THAN ALL THE OTHER GIRLS’ HENNA TATTOOS!” (still bouncing)
